The Wairere Falls Track is located 10 minutes’ drive from Matamata.
The hike to the waterfall viewing platform is around 1 hr 30 min return. From this platform, you can take in a full view of the falls, the tallest in the North Island with a 153-metre drop. From the first viewing platform, you can continue on a further 30-45 minutes to another lookout at the top of the falls. From here, you will have a breath-taking view back over the valley and the Waikato plains.

Toilets and parking
There is free parking and toilets available in the parking lot.
Safety
There is an increased risk of landslides, rockfalls, and flash flooding during/after heavy rain.
Do not use the track during or after heavy rain, or when a severe weather watch or warning has been issued.
Ability
Expect a steep and rough track with rocky, uneven ground. The track is muddy, wet, and slippery in places. You need to be moderately fit to walk this track comfortably and have sturdy shoes with good grip. Allow a day to complete the full hike.
