Tai Chi involves low impact exercises to gain strength, balance and co-ordination in our bodies.
We also perform Qi Gong, which is older than Tai Chi, and similar to moving yoga, involving stretching and opening our joints.
We practice traditional Tai Chi forms from the various Family Styles. These include the Yang style 24 form, the short version Yang 8 form, the Sun sort form, Tai Chi for the Heart, plus the combined styles 42 form, that has moves from all 5 family styles.
A small group also complete the Yang 32 sword (Jian) and 42 combined sword forms. This is more for people who have some prior experience with Tai Chi.
We are affiliated to Falls Prevention, Strong and Stable, and Community Strength and Balance groups, which is overseen by ACC.
Classes are held regularly twice a week, on a Tuesday and Thursday morning, for one hour.
During Winter, Tuesday classes are held at 11 am at the St Aidan's Church hall in Claudeland's, after the Yoga class. Thursday classes are held at 10:45 am at the Knox Presbyterian Church Hall on Albert Street, in East Hamilton, after the Zumba Gold class. Inside classes cost $5 per session.
During Summer, we meet out doors on the same days at 11 am, at Hayes Common, near the Wellington Street Beach park area in Hamilton East, by the play area, under the trees.
On the first Saturday of each Month at 10 am, thru the whole year, we also meet outside at Hayes Common. Outside gatherings are weather dependent, so if raining, then no Tai Chi class.
Beginners and new people are welcome to join us.
Inside hall costs are $5 per session. Outside session costs are by donation.
Loose fitting clothing should be warn, plus bring a water bottle for hydration.
Tai Chi can be practiced with or without foot ware. This is your choice.
