Located at the Landing Reserve in Taupo at the North end of the Lake, LTYC has been serving the sailing community of the Central North Island for over 60 years. We are a family based club with a mixture of centerboard dinghies and trailer yachts. We cater for all levels of sailing ability and our vibrant membership embraces all varieties of yachting.
The beautiful Lake Taupo, New Zealand's largest body of fresh water, provides the perfect location for our sailing activities. Our Clubhouse, with its marvellous view over the lake towards Mt Ruapehu and the other peaks of the Tongariro National Park, is the perfect venue for our social activities and your special event.
Scheduled sailing for trailer yachts and centreboard sailors commences at 1800hrs during daylight saving. Activities may occur on other days depending on scheduling.
On Monday is there is learn to sail for juniors in optimists from around 3:30pm.
Tuesdays and Thursdays sees the 420 teams racing crews out training from about 4pm
Then on Sundays you see the trailer fleets competing again.
If you are interested in racing or learning to sail at our club please contact us.
We have some exciting events coming up and as usual we also have a full programme of local racing. This year LTYC will host a number of specialist regattas. Feel free to pop along to the clubrooms on a Wednesday evening to meet fellow sailors or watch the proceedings from our observation decks.
You must be a full member of Lake Taupo Yacht Club to participate in the Learn to Sail programme. The owner of trailer yachts and sports boats are responsible for making sure that all crew members are members of the club. Contact for more information regarding memberships.
