About us

Our Mission:

JKA Matamata(now JKA Waikato)  was founded in Jan 2012 with a single goal: to offer safe, fun, competitive karate to anyone desiring to partake. Our Association strives to provide a structure that's conducive to meeting this goal of fair and safe training.

Each year, our committee reviews and evaluates current rules and procedures to ensure we are offering the best and safest experience possible for each student. We then incorporates any updates that have been adopted by the Japan Karate Association into our JKA Waikato syllabus.

Our programme

Class Formation:

Students are assigned to classes based on skill level to create teams of even strength. We understand the desire for students wanting to train together based on friendships and convenience and we give consideration, and accommodation when possible, to students requesting to be in the same class.

However, we also have a responsibility to make training fair and competitive. Therefore, we reserve the right to move students or whole teams into more appropriate skill level classes, if necessary.
