Hamilton Wanderers

About us

The home of over 600 members playing Football, Hockey and Powerchair Football.

A bit about us and our history...

Hamilton Wanderers is an amateur football club, one of Hamilton's oldest, and continues to be proud of its foundations which began in 1913. We are based at Porritt Stadium, Crosby Road, Hamilton. We have strong community ties and are a family based club with a number of families now sporting three generations of currently active members.

Hamilton Wanderers provides a pathway for players, from junior teams, through to youth teams and then on to senior levels. Many top level footballers have come through this pathway, including All Whites Chris Wood, Marco Rojas and Logan Rogerson, all of whom have developed as youth players with the club.

The club has also entered in September 2017 into a partnership with the charity group, Child Matters, as the work that they look to achieve in New Zealand align with our own family club environment and values that we hold dear as club values.

In 2021 Wanderers Sports Club has diversified and now currently offer three Senior Men’s and two Senior Women’s Hockey Teams that play in the Waikato Men’s Competition and a PowerChair Football team. These relationships and new offering has come through our football development opportunities to family members of the hockey players and through wider business connections.

Our senior mens and womens premier teams compete in the Northern League Competions with the ability to make National League.

A training venue for the FIFA Women's World Cup in New Zealand in 2023, Porritt Stadium was upgraded with a best-in-class grass pitch as well as flood light and changing room upgrades.

We also have other senior teams in various Waikato leagues. The youth club starts with our U12s and leads up to our U17 boys. The junior club continues to go from strength to strength. The last few years have seen a growth in numbers and teams competing across all grades.

We encourage participation and support from all. If you wish to become part of the Wanderers story, we would love to hear from you.

Our programme

Hamilton Wanderers FC are currently the only club in the Waikato providing a clear pathway from juniors through to the National League for players who are committed enough to reach the top levels of football.

The club has developed opportunities for training under qualified coaches through all levels to assist in providing a continual stream of young players through the age groups to eventually becoming part of the National League squad.
